AI Visibility Tools Compared: Prices, Engines and Limits

If you want to know whether ChatGPT, Gemini or Google’s AI Overviews mention your business, you have two choices: check by hand every month, or pay for one of the new AI visibility tools. There are now dozens of them, and their pricing pages are hard to compare because each one counts something different: prompts, checks, engines or credits.

This guide compares four well-known trackers and the two first-party reports from Google and Bing. Every price and limit below was read on the vendor’s own page on 29 October 2026. Prices change often, so treat them as a snapshot and re-check before you buy.

Key takeaways

  • Start with the free reports: Google Search Console’s generative AI performance report and Bing Webmaster Tools’ AI Performance report.
  • Paid trackers run a fixed list of prompts through AI engines on a schedule. Cost is driven by prompts × engines × frequency.
  • Published entry prices on 29 Oct 2026: Otterly Lite $29/month, Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit $99/month, Ahrefs Brand Radar’s AI Visibility Index from $199/month. Profound offers a trial, then custom pricing.
  • No tool sees inside Google or OpenAI. Scores are samples, so judge a tool by its method, not its dashboard.

What AI visibility tools measure

Almost every tracker works the same way. You give it a list of prompts, the questions your buyers type into AI assistants. The tool runs each prompt in a set of AI engines on a schedule, stores the answers, and reports:

  • Mentions: whether your brand is named in the answer.
  • Citations: whether one of your URLs is linked as a source.
  • Share of voice: your mentions compared with competitors in the same answers.
  • Sentiment and accuracy: how the answer describes you, and whether the facts are right.

That is the same method as a manual audit, automated. If you have not run one yet, our AI visibility audit guide shows how to build the prompt set first. A tool is only as useful as the prompts you put into it.

Here is what each vendor’s own page showed on 29 October 2026. All prices are in US dollars per month, billed monthly, before tax.

Start with the free first-party reports, then add a tracker only when you know which prompts matter.

A few details matter more than the headline price. Semrush charges $99 for each extra user licence on its toolkit, according to its help page. Otterly puts Google AI Mode, Gemini and Claude behind add-ons. Ahrefs meters custom prompts in checks, so tracking one prompt on several engines uses several checks.

Free first-party reports

Before paying for anything, open the two reports that come straight from the search engines. They are the only sources with real data rather than sampled prompts.

Google Search Console: generative AI performance report

Google’s help page says the report was rolled out to all websites worldwide as of 31 August 2026. It shows impressions from AI Overviews and AI Mode, grouped by page, country, date and device. If you do not see it, your site may not have enough AI impressions yet, or it may be excluded from Search generative AI features.

Bing Webmaster Tools: AI Performance

Microsoft’s AI Performance report shows how often your pages are cited in Copilot and Bing’s AI answers, and the grounding queries behind them. On 13 October 2026 Bing added a Topics Portfolio beta that groups those queries into themes and lists opportunity queries where other sites are cited and yours is not. Bing says to treat the numbers as directional.

Neither report covers ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity. That gap is what the paid trackers fill.

How to work out the real cost

Price per month hides the real unit: AI answers collected. A simple sum makes plans comparable:

answers per month = prompts × engines × runs per month

For example, 25 prompts on 4 engines checked daily is 25 × 4 × 30 = 3,000 answers a month. Ask each vendor how many answers your plan buys and what add-on engines and extra users cost. Then compare the cost per answer, not the sticker price.

Question to askWhy it matters
Can I write my own prompts?Suggested prompt sets rarely match how your buyers ask. Profound’s trial, for example, uses a recommended set you cannot edit.
Which engines are in the base price?Several tools sell Gemini, AI Mode or Claude as add-ons.
Logged-out or signed-in answers? Which country?AI answers change with location, account and history.
Can I export the raw answers? You need the answer text to check accuracy, not just a score.
How are extra users billed?Per-seat licences can double the cost for a small team.
Questions based on the pricing pages above.

Which tool fits which business

There is no best tool, only the right fit for your size and how often you will act on the data.

  • Small business or one website: Search Console, Bing AI Performance and a monthly manual check of 20 to 30 prompts are often enough. If you want automation, an entry plan with about 15 to 25 prompts covers your core services.
  • Teams already on Semrush or Ahrefs: the add-on inside your existing suite is usually the simplest choice, because keyword and backlink data sit next to the AI data.
  • Agencies and multi-brand companies: look at prompt volume, client workspaces and exports first, then price.
  • Enterprises: need more engines, regions, SSO and API access, which usually means custom pricing.

If the tool shows you are rarely cited, the fix is usually on your website: crawler access, clear service pages and consistent business facts. Our AEO services guide covers those fixes, and our web development team handles the technical side.

Limits every tool shares

Google’s guidance on third-party SEO tools says outside tools “don’t have access to our internal ranking data” and can’t guarantee performance. The same applies to AI answers. Every tracker samples answers under its own test conditions, so day-to-day swings are normal. Watch the trend over weeks, and treat any vendor that promises citations with caution.

FAQ

What is the best AI visibility tool for a small business?

Start with the no-cost Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools reports, plus a monthly manual check of key prompts. For automation, pick an entry plan that lets you write your own prompts and covers ChatGPT and Google’s AI features. On 29 Oct 2026, Otterly’s Lite plan was the lowest published price of the tools compared, at $29 a month.

Can I track brand mentions in ChatGPT for free?

Not with an official report. OpenAI does not offer a webmaster report like Google or Bing. You can check by hand: run the same prompts in ChatGPT with search on each month and log mentions and links. Paid trackers automate that same process across more prompts and engines, but they still sample answers rather than see everything users are shown.

Are AI visibility scores accurate?

They are samples, not exact counts. A score depends on the prompts chosen, the engines tested, the location and the time of the check. Use one tool consistently, keep the prompt set fixed, and read the raw answers, not just the score. Trends over several months tell you more than any single number.

Can Eoxys set up AI visibility tracking for us?

Yes. We build the prompt set, set up Search Console and Bing reports, check crawler access and hand you a monthly report with a prioritised fix list for your key pages. Get a real project estimate within 24 hours, with an NDA on request.
